The Steeple Thanks You!

To the Seacoast Community:

As I look over this great City of Portsmouth, I am sincerely thankful for each and every one of you who helped restore me to the grandeur I have known for over 150 years. Today, my frame is strong, my color is bright, and my confidence in this community is higher than it has ever been.

Last year, a violent storm swept through Portsmouth and toppled the beams and scaffolding that were meant for my repair. Rather than lament what might have been considered a tragedy, you worked harder than ever to restore my magnificent presence and ensure my longevity. You should be proud of your resilience and determination.

There are so many of you to thank, too many to name in this letter. You know who you are. Residents, donors, businesses, state and city officials and employees, volunteers, clergy, contractors, steeplejacks, church members and others. Together, you raised over $1.5 million, preserved my status as this City’s icon, and participated in an unprecedented, historic achievement.

In return for all your hard work and commitment, I promise to continue to serve you proudly as the symbol of this beautiful City. The residents of this community have proven once again why Portsmouth is one of the most desirable places to live in this country

The North Church Steeple

Help us preserve our symbol!

Our organization is made up of a group of dedicated friends and neighbors committed to raising the necessary funds to restore and maintain the steeple that's been at the heart of Portsmouth for 150 years.

The Market Square Steeple Fund is a separate 501(c)3 organization formulated outside North Church for the specific purpose of community outreach fundraising. The campaign goal of $1 million dollars has been reached but we can still use your help to continue to preserve this historic landmark.

As anyone who lives in or visits Portsmouth, New Hampshire knows, the Market Square Steeple is our city's symbol. It's an historic icon that we all look up to; one that provides us with a unique sense of place. This beautiful spire that can be seen from so many vantage points is a symbol that deserves to be restored and maintained for future generations.
